Introduction to Projects

Dr. Zareef Memorial School (ZMS)

Dr. Zareef Memorial School (DZMS) is one of the pioneer non-profit projects of the ZKF established in 1988 at 1-Nishtarabad. From September 1995 to June 2015, It had moved to a rented building and now it has been reshifted back to 1-Nishtarabad. In the year 2000, its name was changed as the Dr. Zareef Memorial School (DZMS) which gradually grew up to the usual Matriculation level (Class-10) by 1999. DZMS had a strength of 680 mixed students on its rolls upto 2012 but by April 2014, it came down to 200 when the new session started. This was due to certain policy changes by the management which included bringing down the level of the School to Class-7 from 10. The mission of DZMS is to impart good quality education to the children of lower middle & middle class citizens of mostly the eastern periphery of Peshawar and also building the wholesome personality of the students. The medium of instruction in the school is strictly English.

Education Resource and Information Centre (ERIC)

ERIC is a pioneer non-profit project of the Zareef Khan Foundation established in January 1999. ERIC provides basic Teacher Training courses and expands its activities to provide more comprehensive support and training for educators' community members amongst locals in Pakistan (especially in KP), Afghan refugees and inside neighbouring Afghanistan.

Preservation Of Environment and Nature (PEN)

Under the PEN programme of ZKF, UNDP/GEF funded the Malakand Biodiversity Conservation Project which was jointly implemented by ZKF-UNDP and the NWFP Department of Wildlife. Main emphasis of the project was to conserve the flora & fauna and promote legal trophy hunting and bird shooting from which 80% benefit from ungulates & 90% from bird shoot is donated to the community to be spent for its welfare works.

As the local tribal communities have decided to prefer the pen over a gun, therefore, immense input in literacy and healthcare promotion is needed. There are government schools and dispensaries in the area without any staff or activity for many years.

Darvesh Builders (DB)

There is a plan that this programme is revived to introduce the ancient clay / dome art of construction which is popular in neighbouring Afghanistan and Iran and is ideal for our climatic conditions too for housing and public buildings in rural areas. Clay is the only material used in construction which is 50 - 80 % cheaper then conventional construction at any given time.

ZKF is working in the following sectors:

Education

Teacher Training

Clay Dome Homes

Literacy

Biodiversity

Advocacy

Heritage Conservation

Educational Tours

Health
